
Fabíola Costa Moutinho
Senior Clinical Research Manager (Sword Health | Portugal)
Fabíola Costa currently serves as Sword’s Senior Clinical Research Manager, overseeing all aspects of clinical research to support innovation, validate Sword programs’ impact in various disorders, and establish evidence on how Sword is revolutionizing care delivery and health equity through peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals. With a background in PharmD and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (awarded Cum Laude at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto), Fabíola has been involved in clinical and biomedical research for over 20 years. Prior to joining Sword, Fabíola served as a principal investigator at i3S - Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, one of the largest research consortia for health in Europe, where she led a multidisciplinary team focusing on developing a technology capable of imparting anti-infection features to medical devices. Additionally, Fabíola held the position of Guest Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering UP, where she supervised numerous MSc and PhD students. Fabíola has been involved in over 9 competitively funded projects, co-invented 3 patents, authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications (with over 1100 citations), and delivered over 40 presentations at medical research and society congresses and symposia. She has received 8 awards, including the Best Innovation Project Award at the RESOLVE 1st Edition, for the AntiBioCoat Project (2018).
